Starcraft II Battle Report

Okay, I'll admit it, I was just part of one of the geekiest things I have ever seen. Jordan, Patrick, and myself just watched two guys play an alpha build of Starcraft II... for twenty minutes.

The sad part is I liked it, a lot. And will probably watch it again.

In case you weren't aware Starcraft II IS WITHOUT A DOUBT going to be the greatest game ever. This video further promotes this FACT. Seeing the new troops in action, their new abilities, and the kickass new 3dness of this badass game makes me want this game more than anything I have ever wanted, ever.

To truly realize the awesomeness that is Starcraft II you must watch this video now.

If you want someone to watch it with call me I will watch it anytime anywhere.

And if you are Blizzard I will do terrible terrible things if you let me play the alpha or beta versions of this game, terrible things.

So...

I just beat Skate 2. I got it about 2 weeks ago, and It has been sucking my life away ever since. I don't get it, I love a game with a story, and that is one thing that Skate 2 lacks, a real story. But for whatever reason, nothing really gets my blood pumping quite like racing down the street going 30 mph on a skateboard, poppin' a Nolie 360 Shuvit 360 into a Crooked grind. I love sports games. Extreme sports games are no exception, and Skate and Skate 2 are definitely the cream of the crop when it comes to the extreme sports genre. If you haven't played it, I would totally suggest it, it is definitely the best game I have played in a long time.

Anyway, I'm going to go back to playing Skate 2 now, because I'm sure Jordan will be wanting to get it from me in the next few days and tear up the streets of San Vanelona.

Just thought you all might like to know what I've been up to recently.

E3 is back!

Kotaku is reporting that E3 is back and almost as big as ever. Attendance is expected to be ten times what is was last year and there are already double the amount of vendor booths there used to be.

The biggest and bestest reinstatement is that of the booth babes. For too long games have been presented to the public by fat sweaty guys in ties. Back are the days of half naked DOA girls and well half naked girls in general.

The increase in vendor turn out also means more trailers and demos for us to drool over while we wait for developers to stop dragging their feet and PUT STARCRAFT II OUT ALREADY!

June 2-4 – Prepare yourselves.

"I've got some good news, and some baaad news...

...regarding Final Fantasy XIII."
Jordan Gouge, Save & Quit Crew, 2009

That was a quote... from me. I just said it about 26 seconds ago.

Since we only have about 3 readers (not including crew), I will make the decision to just deal you the bad news first. I know it may be hard, but it'll make the second half of this entry even better than you could have imagined!

Today on heavyweight gaming news blog Kotaku, Square-Enix big-man Yoichi "Imperial Hot" Wada was quoted saying that Final Fantasy XIII and it's PS3-exclusive counterpart Final Fantasy Versus XIII will not be seen in America and Europe until at LEAST 2010. AT LEAST!

Kotaku.com writer Luke Plunkett said, "Or, in a way I can put it to maximize disappointment, over a year away."

He's absolutely correct. Unless these two make it out in the first 2 weeks of 2010 (which I don't see happening, as no one's quite crazy enough to release a blockbuster like that right after the annual holiday spend-a-thon), then this game will not come out for MORE THAN A YEEEAAAARRR!!! If you're like me, then you've been following this game for years already, and the thought of another whole year is just unbearable. Although, in the long run, I guess what's another year?

The delay is mostly due to the port of the English version to the Xbox 360. In Japan, where about 7 people own Xbox 360s, both games will remain PS3 exclusives. For the American/European version, the game is being ported to the Microsoft system. Since Square has never ported a Final Fantasy game before, and they are waiting until the English version is COMPLETELY finished and dubbed before even beginning the porting process, the game will take several additional months to be released in America.

That shit pisses me off. I'm not a TOTAL fanboi. I have the PS3 AND the XB360...... but COME THE FUCK ON!!!! That just pushed one of my favorite games back almost 6 months! BAH! What is that? Microsoft has weasled it's way in to yet another exclusive. I know that system exclusives are on their way out the window due to how much it costs to develop a game for these current-gen systems, but the ones that are there sort of work. If Sony squeezed their way in for Gears of War 3 or Halo 4, XB fanbois would be freaking the fuck out! It's just surprising, and sort of a downer.

HOWEVER- I promised good news about FFXIII as well, and I will not disappoint! The newest playable character coming our way in FFXIII is this chocobo-loving Tim Meadows/Ladies Man impersonator named Sazh Kalzroy! The title of this kotaku.com article is good enough for me. "... a Fabulous Afro". Genius headlining!

This man will make this game fantastic. The Kotaku article states that Sazh is the first playable African-American character in the series since Barret Wallace from FFVII. The author of this article seems to hope that he is slightly less stereotypical than Barret... I hope that he's ridiculously stereotypical. I would laugh my ass off if he pops out with a chocobo flying out of his "fabulous afro" and sounds like Mr. T.

I don't forsee that happening... Oh well. I guess it doesn't matter. I'll probably have forgotten what I wanted out of this game by the time it comes out, anyway...

Best. Game. Evar.

Okay so as you may already know I’m excited for the as of yet unannounced release date of Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty. So excited in fact that I am currently saving my pennies, eventually around 130,000 of them, almost exclusively to play this game. Now some of you may think this “crazy” or “borderline insane” but I beg to differ. I think this is “not crazy” and “borderline not insane.” But instead of calling each other names lets look at the facts.

The first fact is completely true and there is no other opinion you could possibly have on this matter.
Blizzard has never made a bad game…ever.
Go ahead think about it I’ll give you a minute.

Good that’s what I thought.

Moving right along we come to the fact that this is the follow to one of the most highly touted video games ever. Not just on PC, not just in the ‘90s, EVER. Now some of you will say, “But Andrew, Starcraft didn’t even win all of the game of the year awards in 1998.” This sadly is true but is a non issue. Starcraft was released during arguably the greatest year for gaming. Resident Evil II, Ocarina of Time, Unreal, Banjo-Kazooie, Fallout 2, Pokémon Red and Blue, Metal Gear Solid, Half-Life, Thief, Baldur’s Gate, the list goes on and on. All of these titles, with exception to Banjo-Kazooie, have released sequels that are just as good if not better than the originals. Being rated among the best of these classics is an honor itself, not to mention the fact that Starcraft is the only game on this list that is still sold in stores. Seriously try to go to Best Buy and pick up a copy of Fallout 2.

The most impressive fact is that a decade later people are still playing Starcraft, a lot. According to Blizzard in 2004 they have 12 million active unique users on Battle.net. That doesn’t even include all the nutters in South Korea holding tournaments on television. I’m sorry did I say nutters I meant Gods among mere mortals. People straight up worship this game.

The original Starcraft aside the fact of the matter is that even if you’ve never played Starcraft, if this is the case I probably hate you, the new trailers and game play footage look phenomenal. I am also super stoked about Blizzard splitting the game into a trilogy. I do see why some of you are not as excited as I am about this. This means that in addition to a couple hundred, or thousand in my case, dollars to upgrade your PC, you will also be dropping around 150 dollars on the three segments of the game. Blizzard has said that each piece of the trilogy will be as long as or longer than the original Starcraft as I whole, for this I am grateful. This gives Blizzard enough game play time to actually tell a story which unfortunately is becoming less and less common in the gaming world.

I guess what I am really trying to say is that I am anxiously counting the days until TBA officially hits. And once WOL goes gold my family and friends will be seeing a lot less of me.

Sometime back Soulja Boy posted a video on Youtube. He states in said video that he will "hand out asswhoopins fo free" in a number of games. One of these games was Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Well, Soulja Boy, we are calling you out. Bring it. Our gamertag is Megatard, we'll play you in CoD4 and beat your ass over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over again. Or if you can afford the new one, we'll take you on in World at War too.

2009

As gamers, we occasionally think about the future and speculate/drool over what is coming soon. The crew wanted to speak their word...

Jarad - I have been following Prototype for a while now. I am by no means a fan of sandbox games, Grand Theft Auto games don't interest me at all, but this game has caught my eye. I like the idea of an anti-hero, the ability to evolve with the enemies you kill, and the use of the hulk engine. I can't wait for it, I expect a lot. I am also interested in Alpha Protocol, and Saboteur, but I will talk about these two more later.

Andrew- STARCRAFT 2.

Patrick- AKA Fan Boy OMEGA, as long as this is similar to the original it will rule, Mass Effect 2. Killzone 2 can't wait, and OMFG Ghostbusters!!!!

Patty-
Deadly creatures: I believe that everything will pale in comparison to the joy I will feel upon entering the body of a spider to combat a world of DEADLY CREATURES.

Conduit: With the possible exception of Resident evil 4 the Wii has been lacking in the shooter department. The idea of a from the ground up shooter designed specifically for the Wii is a breath of fresh air in a world where children are being conned into buying shitty versions of Call of Duty on the Wii

Wii Sports Resort: This game will probably be nothing special, but it will come bundled with the greatest piece of hardware to grace the video game industry, the Wii Motion Plus. The prospect that the Wii Motion Plus brings to the system is quite promising. Soon I will be spending endless hours hacking storm troopers to bits in my brown muslin robes, and every motion I make will be replicated perfectly. I knew my duel practice would pay off someday...

Jordan-
Killzone 2: The graphics look absolutely incredible, the shooting engine is fantastic, and who doesn't want to kill a bunch of scary dudes with glowing eyes!? I've been thinking about this game for years now; ever since the first trailer at E3 2005.

Street Fighter IV: Man.... I can't fucking wait for this game. The SF series has been a huge staple in my life since my early childhood, and I can't wait to throw fireballs with Ryu and Ken in full 2/3D!!!

Final Fantasy XIII: Alright... so I know that this ish probably isn't going to come out this year in America and Europe, but oh em gee. As a huge fanboi of the series, I can't wait to see this one. With the sites for FFXIII and Versus just opening today (I have yet to see them due to a low connection speed at my apartment) with new screencaps, vids, and news (all in convenient Japanese) it's just about time to get this game rollin'. I have been watching the same trailer over and over and over again, and it's getting old. Let's do this Square. Aight?

Quinn-
Sheeeeeeeiiit. It's ya boy, Q-Bra. You know how I already do. I'm about to go fanboy all over everybody's asses. Except it's not for a console, or even PC's (although I basically play PC games exclusively). I'm gunna fanboy for Valve and Steam. Yeah, so EA bought Valve. I don't even give a mother-fuck. EA buys everyone. EA bought your mother last night, and it was cheap. But regardless of who owns who, Valve makes the best fucking games. And Steam makes all those beautiful games, along with the selective EA titles, available online for cheap, easy downloads. I have no idea when Valve will make an addition to the Half Life series, but it needs to happen. Soon. Also, I want more upgradable characters for TF2. But I ain't mad. Valve is too busy cranking out other bitchin' games that make me blow a mind-load all over my keyboard.

PROTIP: Charge me more Valve, because I'll pay upwards of one million fucking dollars to play your mind-candy.

Anyway, fanboy is old meme. I'm looking forward to Bioshock 2. I haven't even beaten Bioshock yet, mainly because it scares the fuck out of me. Give me a game like F.E.A.R, and I'll get spooked a bit at intense parts. Gimme a game like Bioshock, and the whole "steam-punk" creepy 1920's propaganda, and that'll get my adrenaline going. Otherwise, I really haven't heard about any new games. I don't research this shit. I'll buy Starcraft 2. Hit them Zerg's like blam, FREEZEPOP!

Much Obliged,
Quinn Franklin Brabender Esq.

Seasonal Tomato Blight

Hey folks, This is Patty.

I am one of the few nintendo fan boys left in this world. That being said, I like the Wii and DS a lot.

However; I must say I got beef.

To the makers of Harvest Moon: Island of Happiness, you have vexed me completely. This series has endured the test of time, and I admit that I am a fan, but the newest DS variant has driven me to the point of screaming.

Beef number one: when you begin you are able to spread seeds in a 3x3 square in your field. The n you water according to the plants needs. Then the game decides to throw new farmers a fuck you. once the plants sprout you cant walk through them to water the plant in the center (my discussion of why it is incredibly inefficient to water a farm with a watering can will have to occur at a later date). It seems incredibly cruel of the developers to condemn 1 out of nine of every crop to death via dessication, which is inevitable unless the weather decides to favor your plants inescapable damnation.

Beef numero dos: As in every iteration of the harvest moon series, the year is divided into four seasons as opposed to the twelve month calendar that we are so accustomed to, and certain plants are better suited to certain seasons. That being said, why must every plant that is best grown in the spring suddenly shuffle of it's mortal coil with the coming of the fall. I find it hard to believe that the temperature difference between the last of spring and the first of fall is so drastic that every one of my thriving tomato plants are suddenly stricken down with some seasonal tomato blight.

My theory, the harvest sprites are behind it, no wait, the developers at Natsume are probably just douchebags.

I leave you with that pearl of harvest based frustration

Fanboys are fucking stupid.

Yo, what up guys? This is Jarad, one of the Save & Quit guys. My favorite systems are the Nintendo 64, Super Nintendo, and the 3 current Gen Consoles, so expect some vintage shit from me.

Anyway, I got beef. So, I was browsing the Gametrailers forums the other day playing a rousing game of "How long will it take for this to become a fanboy thread?" and I came to a realization that hadn't really hit me yet, Fanboys are fucking stupid. I was reading a thread about Street Fighter IV, in which someone was saying that they expected the Playstation 3 version to be better because the Playstation 3 has a more solid D-Pad than the Xbox 360. I love the Xbox 360, but I will be the first to say that the D-Pad on the 360 controllers is wonky as hell. Anyway, all the fanboys on the forums were all like "Fuck this, the PS3 sucks. I would much rather buy the arcade controllers for my 360 than buy this game for my PS3." OKAY...I have multiple problems with statements such as this. #1 This dude said "My PS3"...."My"....This indicated that the guy owns a PS3...and he hates it...Goddamnit. #2 As opposed to buying the version of this game for the PS3, or even just buy the 360 version they want to drop $60 on the game, plus an extra $79.99 on the controller. This bothers me because that is not only an extra $80 investment that is totally unnecessary, but it hasn't even been proven that the games will be any different.

I understand the investment of the Arcade stick if you are a hardcore Street Fighter player, and play for the Arcade experience, but to drop an extra $80 just because you are a 360 fanboy...It's craziness.

Anyway, fanboys will live on no matter what I think. That's just how it is...

Talk to ya'll later.

Jarad
